5 wonderful winter engagement ideas

You’ve decided it’s time to propose and that couldn’t be more exciting. Winter is the most magical time of year in many ways – which is perfect as you are both going to be asked for the proposal story for a long, long time! With that in mind, we’ve put together our top five favourite winter engagement ideas.

But first, you need the perfect ring. You can visit your local high street jeweller or even order that stunning engagement band online. If you want a ring that lasts, a platinum band is a good choice. You’ll find a variety of online stores that sell these but diamondsfactory.co.uk is one who offers a truly varied selection to suit all brides-to-be, in a range of contemporary and vintage styles.

Alternatively, you could look into having one made bespoke, from an independent jeweller. Gee Woods, Rachel Boston and Taylor and Hart are just a few that offer this service. Whatever you choose, once you have the ring, it’s time to plan that engagement.

1. Incorporate your proposal into Christmas

Get creative with how to present the ring in a Christmassy setting. Tie it with some elegant ribbon to a flute filled with chilled champagne on Christmas Eve, hang a secret bauble on the tree, pop the ring into a cracker or tie the box to your dog’s collar as you bring out breakfast in bed on Christmas morning. You’ll both already be feeling festive and full of love and the atmosphere is ready-made for a wonderful proposal, however you choose to show off the diamond.

2. Get away

Make the place you propose somewhere you both remember and consider getting away from it all. You can stay in the UK or warm up winter by jetting off somewhere sunny and utilise the hospitality of your hotel. Fill your day with activities, relaxing or adrenaline-filled, whatever suits you as a couple – then organise with the concierge to have your room filled with candles, flowers and a bottle of champagne on ice ready to greet you when you get back in the evening.

Alternatively, embrace the winter weather and head to the likes of Scandinavia to propose under the beautiful glow of the Northern Lights. We can’t think of anything much more romantic than saying yes under the stars. You don’t even need to go as far as getting on an aeroplane – a winter weekend break on home soil could be just as perfect. Rent a lodge or log cabin for the weekend (preferably with a hot tub!) and enjoy the company of one another, away from any possible stress. Then cook a meal so delicious it will be impossible to say no to your important question!

3. See in the new year in with a ‘yes’

New Year’s Eve often leaves us feeling underwhelmed, doesn’t it? Well proposing to your partner is a sure-fire way to make this one sparkle. Whether you’re at a party with family and friends (you’ll be dressed up = photographs to treasure) or if you’re alone together, this is sure to be special. If you’re at home, you could get a cosy fire lit and make things super personal by eating your favourite food, set out all of your favourite photos and decorate. Whichever way you choose to do it, get down on one knee at the final countdown and bring in the new year with a bang.

4. Make it an adventure

Crisp winter hikes and walks can be incredible if you’re wrapped up warm. You could either turn it into a fun treasure hunt or simply set off on a hike in a beautiful park or walk along a beach. Take a picnic basket filled with fizz and your favourite foods to share, find a stopping point in a picturesque area, cuddle up to keep toasty and propose after you’ve poured and clinked your first glass!

5. Go to a Christmas concert

Research your local Christmas events and select a concert in a local park or venue. Be sure to take along a flask of mulled wine or hot chocolate and some mince pies! You’ll both be feeling warm and fuzzy from the festivities anyway, and as the concert is in the midst of the final song, pop the question! If you are so inclined, you could even contact the organisers before the event to sneak in a personal message.

We hope these ideas have inspired you – add your personal touches and start your life together with memories to last forever. Congratulations!
