Move Over Turkey, Cranberry Sauce has Other Plans

Who decided cranberry sauce was just for turkey?

Certainly not the grill!

Sweet and tart, cranberry sauce plays beautifully against the smoke and savoury flavours of the BBQ, making it the ultimate grilling hack.

This is why three culinary pros took one can of Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce and turned it into an entire BBQ menu.

The result?  A delicious spread that looks nothing like Thanksgiving.  It does look like cranberry sauce just entered its grilling era though!

MasterChef Canada’s Andy Hay gave his can of cranberry sauce a starring role before the grill even heated up with a Whipped Feta Cranberry Dip.  He blended cranberry sauce into some creamy feta with honey and another dollop of sauce on top.  Serve it with warm grilled pita and it will be gone before anything else hits the grill! But the dip is only the warm-up. Next, Matt Basile, cook book author and former host of Rebel Without a Kitchen brought the heat with his Gochujang Beef Ribs glazed in cranberry sauce with Cranberry Kimchi Slaw on the side. This bold sweet, savoury and spicy combination that shows just how far one can of cranberry sauce can go. Click here for the full recipe.

And because no summer BBQ is complete without dessert, Kara Quigley (recipe developer and creator behind Scale and Tailor) saves one of cranberry’s best transformations for last. Her Crispy Cranberry Cream Cheese Wontons embraced the signature tang of Ocean Spray’s sauce with rich cream cheese inside golden, crispy wrappers for the ultimate shareable finale. Ingredients

One can. Three courses. And not a turkey in sight.  Clearly cranberry sauce isn’t just for the holidays, we simply needed another season to show us what else it could do.
