Is keeping it up, getting you down?

Do you feel the pressure to perform in the bedroom every single time, and sometimes two, three or four times per night for that matter?

Most men will experience an erection problem at least once in their lifetime.

This could be due to stress, exhaustion, too much alcohol or simply not feeling like sex.

Persistent erectile dysfunction (sounds sexy, right?) is estimated to affect about 10% of men at any one time. And it’s not limited to the older generations either. Seven per cent of 18—29 year olds report having trouble with their erections, increasing with each age group.

Why is it happening to me?

You love your wife or girlfriend and find her sexually attractive, yet still struggle to achieve that oh so important E word.

The causes of erection issues can be both physical and psychological…do any of these sound familiar?

Have we made you think twice about reaching for your next pint?

The next time your lack of erection gets you down, consider these important lifestyle changes.

  1. Reduce your alcohol intake

Alcohol can damage the nerves leading to the penis and reduce testosterone levels. Men and women are advised not to regularly drink more than 14 units a week. Remember that the number of units in a drink is based on the size of the drink as well as its alcohol strength. For example, a pint of strong lager contains 3 units of alcohol, whereas the same volume of standard lager has just over 2 units.

  1. Tackle the route causes

Think about whether there may be an underlining reason for your problem. Try healing rows with your partner and think about how your mental wellbeing may be affecting your sex life. For example, 90 per cent of men who are affected by depresion also have erection problems. Visit your GP for advice. Take steps to reduce stress in your life such as exercising more and getting outside.

  1. Rule out medication

Consider whether your medication may be affecting your erections – as many as 25% of erectile dysfunction cases are linked to medical drugs. Speak to your GP if you’re concerned.

  1. Consider Prelox®
