Danny Elfman’s fascination with horror and the macabre takes wearable form in a new limited-edition release.
The legendary composer behind Batman, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Spider-Man has spent decades creating some of film’s most recognizable music.
For his latest project, though, Elfman is drawing inspiration from something considerably more personal: his own skull.
Elfman has teamed up with Los Angeles artist and jewelry designer ALLIGATORJESUS for a limited-edition collaboration built around anatomy, classic horror and a mutual appreciation for the macabre. At the heart of it all is a CT scan of Elfman’s actual skull, transformed into an eerie visual that feels perfectly at home in the composer’s universe.
A Collaboration Years in the Making
For ALLIGATORJESUS, working with Elfman carries a history that goes well beyond their eventual friendship.
Long before the two collaborated, Elfman’s work had already made an impression on the designer. His unmistakable approach to monsters, theatricality and the beautifully bizarre helped shape a visual and musical language that has influenced generations of filmmakers, artists and audiences.
After watching Elfman perform live for more than a decade, ALLIGATORJESUS had quietly entertained the idea of designing grillz for him. As the pair became friends, that concept began to take shape around interests they shared: anatomy, mortality, old Hollywood horror and art that finds beauty in unsettling places.
Their shared influences also include the work of photographer Joel-Peter Witkin, known for carefully constructed imagery exploring the human body, death and the grotesque.

The defining image of the collection started with an idea ALLIGATORJESUS had while watching Elfman perform in Southern California.
Rather than focusing solely on what was happening on stage, the designer began imagining a portrait stripped of performance entirely — Elfman reduced to the physical structure beneath it all.
That idea eventually became literal, and the resulting image falls somewhere between an anatomical scan, gothic portrait and luxury campaign. It also feels particularly fitting for Elfman, whose career has long existed at the intersection of whimsy and darkness.

For an artist whose work has always embraced monsters, mortality and the theatrical possibilities of the strange, turning his own skull into the centrepiece of a fashion and jewelry collaboration somehow feels less shocking than inevitable.
