The Return of Alpine Light: Inside Josephinenhütte’s Most Anticipated Summer Release

After last year’s Alpine Light collection sold out within days, Josephinenhütte’s coveted limited-edition series returns with six new alpine-inspired hues.

This summer, Josephinenhütte is bringing back one of its most sought-after limited editions. The return follows the runaway success of the Alpine Light No. 5 collection, which sold out within days of its 2025 release and quickly became one of the brand’s most coveted launches.

While Josephinenhütte has earned an international following for its acclaimed Josephine wine glasses—widely celebrated among sommeliers, collectors, and wine enthusiasts—the Alpine Light collection shifts the focus from the wine cellar to the summer table, bringing the same commitment to craftsmanship and sensory design to water glasses and carafes.

Designed by sixth-generation glassmaker Kurt Josef Zalto, one of the most respected names in luxury stemware, the collection was inspired by a hike through Austria’s Dachstein mountains during the longest day of the year. Captivated by the vivid colours intensified by the lingering light of the summer solstice, Zalto transformed that moment into a collection that captures the beauty of alpine summer through handcrafted glass.

This year’s Alpine Light collection consists of two limited-edition pieces: the Josephine No. 6 Alpine Light Set and the Josephine No. 9 Alpine Light Carafe.

At the heart of the release is the Josephine No. 6 Alpine Light Set, a six-piece collection of handcrafted water glasses available in six distinct colours inspired by the alpine landscape. Mountain Spring, Lupin’s Glow, Twilight Breeze, Morning Copper, Wild Dandelion, and Emerald Lake each capture a different mood of Austria’s Dachstein mountains, from glacial waters and wildflower-covered meadows to the warm glow of the setting sun.

Following the rapid sellout of the Alpine Light No. 5 collection in 2025, Josephinenhütte has reimagined Alpine Light in the larger Josephine No. 6 format. Holding 400ml (13.5 oz), the generously sized glass is designed for everything from sparkling water and soft drinks to seasonal cocktails, making it an ideal companion for summer entertaining. Collectors can purchase the complete six-colour set or select individual colourways to create a more personalized tabletop presentation.

Complementing the glasses is the Josephine No. 9 Alpine Light Carafe, available separately in each of the six signature hues. Designed to hold a standard bottle of wine while fitting comfortably inside a refrigerator door, the mouth-blown carafe combines practical functionality with the sculptural silhouette that has become a hallmark of Josephinenhütte’s design language. Together, the glasses and carafe bring a vibrant yet sophisticated touch to summer tablescapes.

Like every Josephinenhütte creation, each piece is individually mouth-blown by skilled artisans in Europe. The subtle variations in colour and form ensure that no two pieces are exactly alike—a testament to the craftsmanship that has made the brand a favourite among collectors, sommeliers, and design enthusiasts alike.

Only 500 Alpine Light Josephine No. 6 sets and 180 Alpine Light No. 9 Carafes will be produced worldwide, making this one of Josephinenhütte’s most exclusive releases of the year.

The Limited Edition Josephine No. 6 Alpine Light six-piece set is priced at $395 USD, while the Alpine Light No. 9 Carafe is available for $195 USD.

Josephinenhütte newsletter subscribers will receive exclusive presale access beginning June 14, ahead of the public launch on June 21, appropriately timed to coincide with the summer solstice that inspired the collection. Given that last year’s Alpine Light collection sold out within days, and with only 500 sets and 180 carafes available worldwide, this year’s release is unlikely to remain available for long.
