Lamborghini has done it again! Or for the first time, depending on how you look at it. The Italian automaker has created what they call the world’s first “super SUV”. Although SUV’s are in popular demand right now, Lamborghini didn’t just jump on the bandwagon with this model. They’ve created a whole new SUV that challenges all the others to go the distance. The Lamborghini Urus.

However, this isn’t the first time Lamborghini has had a hand at constructing an SUV. Beginning from 1986 and ending in 1993, the automaker made the LM002, an SUV that pretty much resembled a tank (fun fact, it was actually intended for military use). Think along the lines of the Defender or G-Wagen, but instead, this one was a complete flop. The world wasn’t ready for it yet and to add insult to injury, Hummer already had that market on smash.

Now back to present-day, Lamborghini has just released their second SUV, the Urus. What is a Urus, you may ask? Supposedly, it’s another word for the aurochs, which were the ancestors of modern domesticated cattle. Based off it’s appearance, it’s most certainly your typical intimidating Lambo, except this time it’s a lot more bulky and beefed up. It’s muscular surfaces make it appear strong and self-secure, while the mixed tires allow a luxury super sports car look. All the surfaces are designed with a clear and vivid attention to functionality. Man, just look at the lines on the exterior of this whip! The sharpness and angularity give us anxiety in the best way possible. I guess after really examining it, we can see why they named it after a bull.

Since it’s a Lamborghini, we weren’t really too concerned with the exterior (it’s a given it was gonna be visually striking). Now let’s get under the hood and talk mechanics. The Urus has a 641-horsepower twin-turbo V-8 engine with a top speed of almost 306 km/h and can reach 0-100 in 3.6 seconds. It bests the Bentley Bentayaga’s top speed of 300 km/h, crowning it the fastest SUV in the world. Urus provides the most comprehensive standard driving dynamics equipment in the SUV segment. Urus promises the best performance in every situation while maintaining the best weight-to-power ratio in the entire SUV segment, mainly thanks to its best-in-class driving dynamics with an astonishing and completely versatile package: 4-wheel-steering, 4-wheel-drive system with active rear torque vectoring, adaptive air suspension with active dampers, a roll stabilization system with continuous and immediate response, carbon ceramic brakes and mixed tires. There’s also been a rumour floating around that a plug-in hybrid version will possibly be available after production starts in 2018. A hybrid Lamborghini? Yeah, we’re definitely starting to step into the future with this one.

Last, but definitely not least, let’s take a look inside at the stunning Italian interior. It’s just what you’d expect from Lamborghini, but there’s something different about it compared to other Lambo models such as the Aventador. It could be the fact that there are rear seats, but something is extremely approachable about this interior. Unlike the aggressive exterior, the interior is a lot more welcoming and comfortable. After all, an SUV is meant to be a family car.

The interior is composed of luxurious Italian craftsmanship infused with state-of-the-art technology. The aeronautic design and the driver-oriented instrument concept with three TFT screens (one for the instruments, one for infotainment, and one for comfort functions and virtual keyboard with handwriting recognition) puts the driver’s needs at the utmost importance and make the overall driving experience more enjoyable. The dashboard architecture follows the “Y” theme inspired by iconic Lamborghini models. The interior can be customized to be more elegant or more sporty through the selection of various kinds of colors and materials, such as: natural leather, alcantara, wood finish, aluminum or carbon. Urus showcases the largest range of options ever presented on a Lamborghini. Furthermore, Lamborghini Urus is the first five-seater super sports car.

A Lamborghini isn’t an affordable vehicle for your everyday average Joe and that’s fine. Still, the Urus’ price point will be relatively low for a Lamborghini, with a base price of $200,000 USD ($257,000 CAD). Shipment will begin in Spring 2018.
