With a fixed budget and just five days, two professional modders transformed kids’ ATVs into high-powered mini monsters using parts bought from Temu
Two American YouTubers decided to build what they hope will be the world’s fastest kid all-terrain vehicles using parts from Temu.
Longtime friends @stupidfastjohn and @VasilyBuilds are known for their creative vehicle modification videos, which have racked up tens of millions of views. For this new wild challenge, they each had five days and a $1,000 budget to turn a stock kid’s quad bike into a high-powered machine to race each other.
The winner would take on the legendary Suzuki LT500R, a high-performance quadracer also known as the Quadzilla.
The Builds
The focus of the challenge was to swap the quads’ tiny stock engines for far more powerful ones. But it wasn’t just a simple engine replacement. John and Vasily had to reimagine the quads’ frames and chassis to accommodate the larger motors. It’s the equivalent of putting a lion’s heart into a house cat.
For his ATV, John took on a Honda CRF450R motorbike engine, packing in over 50 horsepower, enough to carry his six-foot-three, 220-pound frame. He cut out the bottom of the ATV’s frame and built a new steel-tube chassis to cradle the engine. He also replaced the rear swingarm and brakes and relocated the radiators. For the suspension, he replaced the stock shocks with solid struts, giving the flame-red quad a low, aggressive stance.
Vasily went even bigger, squeezing a 700cc snowmobile engine into his mini quad with roughly 110 horsepower, almost 100 times the original capacity. He stripped the ATV down, reworked the frame and chassis and changed up the axles and wheels. He preserved the original look by keeping the fairings, seat, handlebars and bumper, and used a compact radiator and exhaust system.
Vasily said when he first began the challenge, he could not conceptualize how he was going to achieve his build. “Then as the week went on, I started falling in love with this thing little by little and now I’m super stoked and can’t wait to shred this thing!”
Useful Tools
To make their desired mods a reality, John and Vasily relied on several key products they found on Temu, this included a high-speed drill bit set, grinders and electrical components.
“Shoutout to Temu,” Vasily said. “Their gear and products came in super clutch on this build. Great quality and amazing prices. You can find almost anything there.”
Race Day
After five days of intense building, the two friends met in an open field where they put pedal to the metal and raced each other.
John won two out of three rounds, earning the right to face the legendary Quadzilla —a 500cc, two-stroke powerhouse once hailed as the fastest production quad ever built.
Lined up next to the giant, John’s mini ATV looked almost comical. But when the race began, his tiny machine surged ahead, holding the lead for half the run before the Quadzilla finally caught up and overtook him.
“This has honestly been one of the most fun builds we’ve ever done,” John said. “Every single part on these mini ATVs came straight off the Temu website.”
“You don’t always need tens of thousands of dollars to build something fast and cool. Sometimes the best projects come from thinking outside the box and making the most of what you’ve already got on hand,” he said.
