Here are 9 things you need to know about the World Design Rankings and the A’ Design Award:

 

In a nutshell, the World Design Rankings (or WDR) ranks countries based on the number of designers that have been granted the prestigious A’ Design Award. Unofficially tagged as the “Olympics of Design,” the WDR aims to push designers around the world to represent their countries, exercise their brain muscles, and innovate ideas. The rankings give an insight on the design potentials of different countries by showcasing their creative strength and highlighting opportunities. Ultimately, it all boils down to promoting global design.

The United States topped the 2018 rankings with 48 Platinum Awards. China isn’t too far behind with 45 and Japan with 43. The other countries in the top ten are Italy, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Turkey, Taiwan, Portugal and Australia. In case you were wondering, Canada is ranked number 18 among all the countries in the list. Here’s the ranking of the 100 countries included in the list:
