Learn Fashion Sense and Dress With Unique Style

Fashion can be a crazy thing to try to keep up with. Chances are, by the time you have it all figured out, it’ll change! Instead of trying to stay on top of all the latest trends, create your own unique style that shows your personality.

Even when you don’t mean to, you’re constantly allowing your visual impressions of people to sway your opinion of someone you don’t know. Some people are aware of this involuntary reflex and as a result, consistently dress to impress.

Fashion, unfortunately, isn’t something that dotes on comfort over style. That’s not to say you can’t be both comfortable and stylish at the same time. To achieve this level of success where fashion is concerned, start with a basic wardrobe staple and put your own style and flair to work. A great example of wardrobe versatility is a beach maxi dress. It can be worn, as it is, with no accessories and be the perfect outfit for heading to the beach. Take the same dress paired with statement jewelry, a scarf, a sexy up-do and different shoes and you can have a fashionable outfit to hit the town in.

Style

The hardest part of creating your own unique style is understanding the basics. You need to have a wardrobe consisting of wardrobe staples; these are your foundation pieces like jeans, pants, t-shirts and blouses. Your style will center around these pieces of clothing so make sure they fit you properly and flatter your specific figure.

The next thing you need to do is become more aware of the fashion around you. Notice what other women are wearing. Are there any certain clothing combinations that appear to work well even though you’d never have dreamed of putting them together? Take mental notes of both the outfits you’re drawn to as well as the ones you don’t find appealing. Somewhere in the middle, you’ll be able to put your own spin on it.

Get Creative

Finding yourself lost in the rabbit hole of Pinterest isn’t a bad thing. When you’re trying to establish your own style, create a style board. Add pictures of celebs or public figures whose style you like. Once you have a decent collection, start looking for the theme. There’s typically something all of your pinned celebs have in common. It may be their use of bold colors or understated elegance.

One thing to keep in mind when you’re looking at the vast array of styles is which style you can see yourself living in. Typically, those are the ones you love versus just appreciating the look of. You want to base your own style on those you can see yourself living in. Think about your personal preferences. Would you rather dress in skirts or pants?

Examine Your Closet

Once you have your Pinterest board thinned out with your most appealing outfits saved and the ones that aren’t quite to your taste, it’s time to look in your closet. Do you have any pieces you can build similar looks with? Chances are, there will be some pieces that you need to cut the cord and just get rid of. If there are clothes that don’t align with the style you’re creating or you have stuff that doesn’t fit you as well as you’d like them to, get rid of them. This is where you have to be brutally honest with yourself and make tough decisions.

Creating your own personal style will take time. Expect there to be a bit of change along the way before you discover exactly what you like.
