Stepping Up Your Cool Points In Five Moves

There’s more to life than being cool, sure, but if we’re honest, we all place some importance on being cool. It’s not about being better than anyone else but about being the best version of yourself.

And it’s more than just an egotistical pursuit. By being the best you, you’ll feel happier and more confident and will likely have more doors open to you than you otherwise would. Some people are born cool, but others need to work on it. In this blog, we’ll run through a few tried and tested tips for nudging your cool credentials in the right direction.

Dressing Well

You can show off your inner cool later on down the line; the first impression will always be your appearance. You can’t change much about your genetics (though grooming well will help), but you can control how you dress. The great thing about dressing well is that it only takes a little bit of time and effort. If you have good boots, smart trousers, and a good shirt, you’re on your way. Focus on filling your wardrobe with a few quality items rather than many low-quality items, and learn how to put colours together. It’ll take you a long way.

Diversify Your Skills

Do you know what makes James Bond the king of cool? It’s because you can throw him into any situation, and he always knows how to handle himself. In Casino Royale, he plays high-stakes poker against a brilliant player, yet he always looks in control. You’ll probably never have to play for stakes as high as Bond (we hope), but it’d be good to know that you could handle yourself if you ever did. Read up on the game’s basics, try a few rounds of free online poker, and continue developing your skills. You’ll find yourself in a real-world poker game one day, and when you do, you’ll be more than ready to be the coolest guy in the room.

Taking Trips

You can be the most interesting person in the room by being widely travelled. Most people stay where they were born, with a few side trips to commonly visited places. People who have ventured off the beaten path and visited places that are hard to reach or otherwise not frequently visited by outsiders will always be welcome at dinner parties. Of course, there’s a limit on where you should visit — nowhere unsafe, for example — but by and large, committing to the occasional adventure will always bring rewards.

Elevate Your Taste Buds

Being cool is all about having style and sophistication. A cool person will always know how to use a fork, the best way to prepare a dish, and which wine bottle to choose from the list. It’s easy to just eat whatever is put in front of you without fully engaging your tastebuds, but where’s the merit in that beyond ending your hunger? You can learn how to appreciate food and drinks by taking courses and really using your senses. It’s not something you can learn overnight, but only through time and experience.

Take Yourself Seriously…But Not Too Seriously

You should take your life seriously; no one else is going to do it for you. A cool person will have interests and ambitions and know how to generally take care of themselves. But on the other hand, they won’t take themselves too seriously. There’s always an air of lightness about suave people that others admire. The takeaway? Make sure you have your house in order, focus on your health and work and so forth, but never forget that there’s always time for cutting loose and having a good time.
