Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will suffer from a mental health issue at some point in their lives. Many people are familiar with feelings of anxiety and depression, it’s important to look after yourself during this time. Looking after your mental health is just as important as your physical health.

When you are going through a particularly difficult time, adapting your routine could make a big difference. Sometimes, your mental health isn’t going to be the best but there are things you can do to help. When you feel down, it’s important to do things to take care of yourself.

The following are some advice and tips on how to change your routine to improve your mental health. Whether you’re feeling low or would like to feel better in general, these tips are for you.

Have Regular Baths 

A great ritual to incorporate into your routine is to have a bath once a week. Warm baths are excellent for relaxing muscles, making you feel calm, and cleansing your body. Set some time apart when you’re free to have a relaxing warm bath, complete with candles and bath salts.

Prioritise Meditation and Mindfulness

A great way to combat unwanted thoughts and feelings is to practise meditation. Meditating for just 5 minutes a day can really help you manage your stress and focus on the present moment. Find the time to meditate for a few minutes every day and see how it can improve your mood and mental health overall.

Some people even like to use meditation music or guided meditations that you can find online. This can give you something to listen to and focus on as you meditate.

Exercise Regularly 

A great way to improve your mental health is by exercising more often. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins which make you feel great afterwards.

Exercising is known to relieve symptoms of poor mental health and improve cognitive function. This is why exercising daily for around 20 minutes can improve your mental health and lift your mood. It’s a great thing to incorporate into your daily routine.

Get Into a Good Sleeping Pattern 

Sleep is very important for your physical and mental health. It’s important that you get enough sleep every night in order to feel as best as you can. Having a night-time routine if you struggle with getting to sleep is a great way to improve your sleep hygiene. It also helps to improve your mental health and physical health too.

Ensure you go to bed at the same time every night and avoid electronics at this time too. Having a healthy night-time routine can help make a big difference to your mental health.
