The new wearable tracks your sleep, workouts and recovery without adding another screen to your life.
There are already enough screens competing for our attention. Garmin seems to agree.
The new CIRQA Smart Band takes much of the health and fitness tracking Garmin is known for and puts it into a wearable without a display. No notifications popping up. No checking your wrist every five minutes. Just a relatively discreet band collecting information in the background so you can look at it when you actually want to.

Launched in July, CIRQA is Garmin’s first screen-free smart band, and at $279.99 CAD, it enters a wearable category that has become increasingly appealing to people who want detailed fitness and recovery data without wearing a traditional smartwatch.
One of its biggest selling points is also refreshingly simple: there is no subscription required for CIRQA’s core health and fitness tracking.
CIRQA is designed to be worn throughout the day and night, tracking wrist-based heart rate, stress, skin temperature, Pulse Ox and Garmin’s Body Battery, which uses your health data to give you a better idea of how much energy you have available throughout the day.
Sleep tracking is a major part of the experience too. The band records sleep stages, provides a sleep score, monitors respiration and heart rate variability, detects naps and offers guidance around optimal sleep duration. Because there is no screen involved, CIRQA also feels particularly suited to people who like having sleep data but don’t necessarily want to wear a full smartwatch to bed.
The fitness side is considerably more robust than its minimalist design might suggest.
CIRQA can manually track more than 80 activities, including running, walking and yoga. A single button on the side can also be programmed to quickly start a favourite activity without having to open the Garmin Connect app first.
It can automatically recognize and record a variety of activities as well. Those workouts can later be viewed and edited inside Garmin Connect, and Garmin says CIRQA can adapt based on those corrections to better classify your activity in the future.
More serious fitness users still get access to familiar Garmin metrics including Training Readiness, HRV Status, VO2 max and Training Status. CIRQA can also show the benefit of a workout and estimate how much recovery time your body may need afterwards.
That makes the lack of a screen feel less like Garmin removed functionality and more like it moved the experience somewhere else. CIRQA collects the information; Garmin Connect is where you actually dig into it.
There is one important distinction for runners and cyclists: CIRQA uses connected GPS. To accurately map outdoor runs, walks and rides, it connects to the GPS on a compatible iPhone or Android device rather than having GPS built directly into the band. If your favourite part of a GPS watch is being able to leave your phone behind, CIRQA probably isn’t going to replace it.
For everyone else, the trade-off may be worth it.
Battery life stretches up to 10 days, which makes around-the-clock tracking much easier, particularly if sleep and recovery are the metrics you care about most. The fabric band is available in Black, French Gray, Mauve and Captain Blue, while additional accessory bands add colours like Citron Gray, Dark Olive and French Blue. Garmin also offers a separate upper-arm band for $59.99 USD, available in Black and in S/M and L/XL sizes, for people who prefer wearing the tracker away from the wrist.
There are some interesting health features here for women too. CIRQA can be used alongside Garmin Connect to track menstrual cycles and pregnancy, while overnight skin-temperature data can contribute to period predictions and past ovulation estimates. Garmin also supports syncing with the Natural Cycles birth control app, although Natural Cycles itself requires a separate subscription.

CIRQA even includes Garmin’s LiveTrack feature, allowing friends or family to follow your location in real time during an activity when the band is connected to a smartphone and Garmin Connect.
What makes CIRQA interesting isn’t necessarily that Garmin invented a new way to track fitness. It didn’t. The appeal is in how much Garmin managed to keep while getting rid of one of the most distracting parts of modern wearables: the screen.
For someone training for a marathon who needs live pace and GPS information directly on their wrist, a Garmin running watch still makes more sense. But CIRQA feels designed for a different person — someone who wants to know how they slept, whether they’re recovered, how active they’ve been and what their body is telling them without feeling compelled to check another device all day.
And the lack of a required monthly membership only makes that proposition more attractive.
The Garmin CIRQA Smart Band is available now for $279.99 CAD through Garmin.
