Charli XCX Is Making Lingerie Part of the Outfit Again

Honey Birdette has appeared across three of Charli XCX’s latest music videos, becoming one of the most consistent fashion details of her Music, Fashion, Film era.

Charli XCX has entered a new era, and naturally, the clothes are getting almost as much attention as the music.

With Music, Fashion, Film, the follow-up to Brat, Charli has traded some of the neon chaos of her last era for something darker, sharper and a little more undone. One styling choice has been particularly consistent throughout the album’s visuals: lingerie that is very much meant to be seen.

Across three of her latest music videos, Charli XCX has worn bras from Australian lingerie label Honey Birdette, pairing intricate lace with open shirts, relaxed tailoring and barely-there layers. The bra is no longer hiding underneath the outfit. It is part of it.

The first came in “Rock Music,” where Charli wore Honey Birdette’s Anastasia Bra. The black balconette combines eyelash lace with nude illusion tulle and jet-black crystal detailing, giving a simple black bra considerably more presence.

For “Wink Wink,” she went in a completely different direction with the Lorna Bra. The magenta balconette features sheer cups, purple and neon pink floral embroidery and crystal details. Styled beneath an open shirt, it’s probably the best example of how easy the look can actually be to wear.

Then came “Camera,” with Charli wearing the Annalise Bra, a softer sky-blue plunge style finished with dimensional floral embroidery, scalloped edges and crystals. In the video, it peeks out beneath her plunging corset top, becoming part of the look rather than something hidden underneath.

Three videos and three very different bras later, Honey Birdette has quietly become part of the wardrobe of this era.

It also makes sense when you see the pieces up close. Honey Birdette leans heavily into the luxury side of lingerie, from the detailed lace, embroidery and crystal finishes to the way each online order arrives wrapped inside a luxe black satin bag. These are bras designed to feel special, so it’s not exactly surprising that the British singer has been finding ways to actually show them off.

Wear it like Charli

The best part of Charli’s approach is that you don’t necessarily have to wear a bra as the entire top. It can simply become another visible layer.

Start with a classic white tank and let a black lace bra peek out around the neckline or straps. With jeans, a belt and a leather jacket, it turns something incredibly basic into a much more intentional look.

An oversized white button-down is another easy option. Leave a few buttons undone, add the bra underneath and keep everything else simple. It gives you the same relaxed, slightly undone feeling that keeps showing up in Charli’s videos without looking like you recreated an outfit from a music video.

Then there’s tailoring. A blazer over a lace bra is nothing new, but wearing a tank or sheer layer between the two makes it feel more casual and a little easier to pull off. The same goes for a cardigan worn loosely buttoned with lace showing underneath.

Of Charli’s three Honey Birdette picks, Anastasia is the one we’d choose headed into fall.

The black lace makes it the easiest to style outside the bedroom, especially with denim, white cotton, leather and oversized tailoring. It can be the main event or just a small detail depending on how much you actually want to show.

That versatility is really what makes this particular lingerie moment interesting. Underwear as outerwear has been around forever, but right now it feels less about putting on a corset and declaring it a top and more about letting the pieces underneath become part of the outfit.

The Charli effect

Charli XCX has become particularly good at taking an aesthetic and giving it a much bigger cultural life.

Brat was the obvious example. What started with an aggressively simple green album cover quickly expanded into fashion, beauty, nightlife and an entire summer defined by the same slightly chaotic energy.

Music, Fashion, Film is a different world, but Charli’s ability to make people pay attention to the details hasn’t gone anywhere. This time, lingerie has become one of those details.

Charli XCX didn’t invent the visible bra, and she doesn’t need to. Her influence has always been less about claiming ownership over a trend and more about knowing exactly how to wear something so that it suddenly feels relevant again.

And after three Honey Birdette appearances in three different videos, we have a feeling a lot more bras are about to make their way out from underneath our clothes.
