A new study has revealed the most popular Canadian celebrities, with Celine Dion taking the top spot.

  • Drake was identified as the second most popular Canadian celebrity, with Ryan Reynolds following in third.
  • The research analyzed Google search data in Canada to determine the celebrities generating the most interest.

Canada has earned a reputation for nurturing exceptional talent across a wide range of industries, with many stars achieving remarkable success in their fields and rising to global prominence – but which celebrities are most beloved by Canadians?

Online gambling site Lucky Days investigated the most popular Canadian celebrities according to their Google search popularity. The study examined the number of searches over the past year for over 200 celebrities to determine the most popular celebrities nationwide.

Celine Dion was revealed as the most popular Canadian celebrity, with an average of 336,743 Google searches per month. The iconic singer was most popular in Quebec, where she generated a monthly average of 1,171 searches per 100,000 people.

Celine Dion is one of the most revered vocalists of her generation, as well as the best-selling Canadian and French-language artist of all time; her records have sold an estimated 200-250 million worldwide. She recently received widespread press coverage following her health battle with the neurological disease stiff-person syndrome.

In second place was Drake, with an average of 322,478 monthly Google searches. The musician’s popularity peaked in Ontario, where searches for him reached an average of 1,081 per month per 100,000 residents.

After beginning his career in teen drama Degrassi: The Next Generation, the hip-hop and R&B artist is now one of the best-selling of all time, having sold over 170 million records globally. He is also an entrepreneur and has lately made headlines for his escalating feud with fellow rapper, Kendrick Lamar.

Following in third was Ryan Reynolds, averaging 290,506 Google searches per month nationwide. The actor reached his highest popularity in British Columbia, with an average of 856.02 monthly searches per 100,000 people in the province.

The Marvel star and businessman has achieved his greatest success with the superhero film Deadpool and its sequels, the third of which, Deadpool & Wolverine, was released earlier this year. His relationship with actress Blake Lively has been widely publicized, with the two being one of the most prolific couples in Hollywood.

Justin Bieber ranked fourth with an average of 289,529 monthly Google searches worldwide. Justin Bieber was most searched-for in Ontario, with a monthly average of 854.67 searches per 100,000 residents.

The pop star shot to fame as a teenager in the late 2000s after uploading song covers to YouTube. He immediately became a teen idol and has since had a successful music career, receiving two Grammy Awards out of 23 nominations.

Rounding out the top five was Ryan Gosling, generating a nationwide average of 248,781 searches per month. Gosling reached his peak popularity in Ontario, averaging 684.49 monthly searches per 100,000 people.

The Hollywood A-Lister is acclaimed for his comedic and dramatic performances in film and is the recipient of three Oscar nominations. His most notable movies include The Notebook, La La Land, Blade Runner 2049, and Barbie.

The top 10 most popular Canadian celebrities:

In sixth was Matthew Perry, with an average of 210,247 searches per month. The actor was beloved for his role in Friends as Chandler Bing and released a memoir just a year before his unexpected death in 2023.

Ranking seventh was Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, with an average of 189,754 monthly searches nationwide. The WWE star is also known for his roles in blockbusters such as Jumanji, Black Adam, and Moana and its sequel.

Donald Sutherland followed in eighth, generating a monthly average of 162,818 searches. The much-loved actor had an extensive career spanning six decades until his passing last year, with highlights including Klute, Don’t Look Now, Pride & Prejudice, and The Hunger Games franchise.

In ninth place was Wayne Gretzky, averaging 160,983 searches per month. The former professional ice hockey player has been deemed the greatest-ever player by the NHL.

Completing the top 10 was Keanu Reeves, who generated an average of 149,028 searches per month. The Hollywood star is most famous for leading the John Wicks and The Matrix franchises.
