With James Wade having lost out to Dutchman Michael Van Gerwen in the finals of the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton over the weekend, the Englishman is famed for being one of the most unlucky players on the tour, regularly on the receiving ends of nine dart finishes and amazing checkouts. Now, with the build up to the World Championships well and truly underway, and with the PDC betting odds from the bookmakers being revealed, Wade will be hoping that he finally gets some luck of his own, having only managed to make the semi-finals of the famous competition in the past. However, Wade is not the only unlucky player on the tour, with a whole host of players receiving some good fortune on the big stage as well.
With players warming up for January and the latter stages of the World Championships, where Van Gerwen is the 8/11 favourite in the PDC betting odds with Coral, Wade will be hoping to not be on the receiving end of yet another televised 9 dart finish, having already had to watch on seven times as opponents have achieved this piece of skill. Regarded by many as the best player never to win the darts world title, Wade himself is the 33/1 outsider with Coral this year.
Elsewhere, and despite not suffering from much misfortune in the game itself, Robert Thornton can still call himself one of the unluckiest players in darts, with the Scot having almost died of Pneumonia back in 2011, before suffering from a heel injury and lung infection. Thornton has now returned to action, and is 150/1 in the PDC betting with Coral to pull off one of the biggest shocks at the World Championships in December. The likes of Peter Wright, Terry Jenkins and Mervyn King are all other players who have suffered from bad luck during their careers.
On the other side of the coin, Raymond Van Barneveld is just one of number of players who have received good fortune at certain times throughout their careers, with the Dutchman even admitting to being extremely lucky to defeat Stephen Bunting in the World Championships back in 2015. The Dutchman is a one time PDC World Champion, and is 33/1 in the PDC betting with Coral to add to his single success come January.
