3 Key Benefits of Heat Recovery Ventilation Systems

Although the technology for Heat Recovery Ventilation systems is relatively new, there is enough documented evidence to substantiate at least three key benefits never before possible in just one unit. Also called HRV, the technology is new enough so that there is still a great number of home and business owners who aren’t familiar with what it is and just how it can benefit them. In today’s world, you will see just why these key benefits are more important than ever before.

1. Sustainability

Heat Recovery Ventilation systems work on an exchange of cool air from outside to warm air being filtered out but with the added benefit of also exchanging clean air from outside to stagnant air within the building. They utilise significantly less energy and are able to recover somewhere between 65 and 90 percent of the heat which would have been lost in traditional HVAC systems. There is a growing effort to attain Net Zero by 2050 and with sustainable HRV systems, there is a real possibility that goal could be met.

2. Cost Effective

Also, there are DIY installations available with units sold by companies like BPC Ventilation Ltd which just sweetens the deal even more. Not only are homes and businesses using less energy, but they can follow instructions to install their own units. Both the installation and the operation are less expensive which makes them the most cost-effective way of heating and ventilating closed spaces in homes and businesses.

3. Reduction in Pathogens

This is something that took the world by surprise in early 2020. Covid-19 first surfaced in Wuhan in the Hubei Province of China in late 2019 but wasn’t declared a global pandemic until mid-March of 2020. The World Health Organisation called it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern about six weeks prior to that, but what really took the world by surprise was the rapidity at which it spread. The first ‘news’ the world actually heard came out of New York City where people working in the same high-rise buildings were highly infected.

This led to a concern that it was an airborne pathogen and with that early evidence, the need for better ventilation became public knowledge. Since it was impossible to make any changes soon enough to do any good, the world went on shut-down mode. In fact, many businesses failed to survive those weeks and months of being closed to business and that also led to a better appreciation for providing clean air inside buildings of all sizes and kinds.

Nothing Could Be More Important

In the end, it is obvious that in today’s world, nothing can be more important than reducing the rising costs of energy, providing sustainable heat while working toward Net Zero and providing well-ventilated air to mitigate the spread of pathogens. These are all things we have become increasingly aware of within just the past two years. However, if we take advantage of the innovative newer technology of HRV systems, many of those concerns can be addressed by changing the ways in which we heat and ventilate our buildings. This is why those three key benefits are so important.
