What is the snake diet?

Simply put, the snake diet resembles the snakes’ fasting lifestyle. The latter involves a long fasting period with the 1-2-hour eating one. The diet is similar to intermittent fasting but stricter. Although a number of the snake diet followers consider it helpful in weight loss, there is no substantial evidence that would prove it. Developed by amateur in nutrition Cole Robinson, the meal plan might be detrimental for your wellbeing. Therefore, this article only elaborates on the meal plan and emphasizes that if you want to try, you had better consult a doctor.

Phases of the snake diet?

Phase 1

At this phase, you go through ketosis. It is a metabolic state when your body begins to get fuel from fat and protein rather than blood sugar. You have to fast for 48 hours, drinking a snake juice that contains water, salt-free potassium chloride, salt, and food-grade Epsom salts. After that, a 72-hour fasting begins.

Phase 2

Fasting should last for about 48-96 hours with only one interruption for a meal. You should continue fasting till you reach your ideal weight. After that, active women and men should eat 8,500 and 20,000 calories per week respectively. These calories should be consumed on 5 meals in the 3-day period.

Phase 3

The fasting cycles last for 24-48 hours broken with one large and nutritious meal. You are not limited to particular foods, you are allowed to eat anything you want.

Benefits of the snake diet

  • It can cure diabetes 2 and inflammation (this is Robinson’s claim, which is not substantiated by scientific evidence)
  • It can help lose weight fast

Disadvantages and risks of the snake diet

  • It promotes dangerous eating habits, starvation in particular
  • It can cause dehydration and nutrient deficiency
  • After it, you are likely to start gaining weight rather fast
  • It can cause digestive disorders

The snake diet and weight loss

The snake diet is not the best choice if you want to lose weight properly. The snake juice is insufficient for you to get the necessary nutrients. On the snake diet, you put your body in the survival mode, when it seeks every possible source to get energy from. This leads to fast yet dangerous weight loss. During the first week of the diet, a person is expected to shed about 14 pounds, which is very unhealthy.

Conclusion

Despite the promises of fast weight loss, the snake diet is an unsafe practice that can jeopardize your wellbeing. On the diet, your calorie and nutrient intake is inadequate, which puts you at risk of severe diseases. Overall, this diet is too strict and dangerous.
