Good Color Schemes for Navy Suits

If you have never worn a suit before and or you want to start experimenting with different colours, you may not be confident when it comes to which suit to choose and how to mix different colours with accessories. Suits are an amazing way to not only get you noticed, but you can really show case your personality. Here we go through good color schemes for navy suits, to make sure that when you step out, you will always look your best.

White Shirts

Navy suits are often the most colourful on the market, so if it is a big step for you then you may want to keep your shirt choice more conservative. White can match well with navy suits and it will give you a timeless and effortlessly stylish look.

Printed Shirts

If a classic and conservative isn’t for you, then why not go for a standout printed shirt. The beauty of navy suits is that they are one of the most versatile when it comes to matching them with prints. You can make the print as loud or as subtle as you like, but it will need to have some blue or navy tones to keep it matching with your overall look. Don’t be scared of block prints or of brightly coloured patterns, you’d be amazed at how versatile a navy suit can be.

Pink

When we think of pink, we automatically default to hot pink but there is actually an array of pinks that are far better suited to navy, but we’re not saying that you can’t have a hot pink shirt or tie if you want to! If you want to be more subtle, you could choose a gentle baby pink shirt or tie or even a salmon. These would make your navy-blue suit stand out and give you modern look. If you aren’t confident with a pink shirt, you can always wear a white shirt and have a pink tie as your accessory. There are so many different ways to match navy and pink you won’t be short of options.

Analog Colours

If you aren’t sure where to start, start by looking at the colour wheel. Analog colours are those that are next to or adjacent to the colour you have selected. So, if you are looking to build layers with ties and shirts, you can select items down the colour wheel to make your suit stand out. This is also a very good way to make sure you don’t make a fashion faux pas!

Complimentary Colour Schemes

These are the ones that reside on the opposite side of the colour wheel. So, if you have a navy-blue suit, the complementary colour to that could be an orange or a brown. If you don’t have a lot of experience when it comes to these colours, especially when it comes to matching them, then you may want to avoid them. If you do want to make a statement and have contrasting yet complimentary colours, speak to a retail assistant who could help you match and make sure you look on point.

Blue Shirt

If you are all out of ideas and want a shirt and tie that won’t cause offence with your navy suit, you can always choose a blue shirt and accessories. The first thing you need to do, is look at where on a colour wheel your suit resides. Once you have worked that out, you can then look at the colours that are next to it that go lighter (your shirt and tie should be lighter than your suit). You can then purchase a shirt and tie that are down the colour wheel from your suit and will always match. You don’t just have to do this with blue, you can also take the same approach to pinks and greys, when matching with navy blue suits.

Final Thoughts

It may seem like diverting from the normal black or grey suit may be stressful but purchasing a navy-blue suit can open up a world of opportunities and a world of colours you didn’t know you could put together. If you aren’t sure where to start, always look at a colour wheel and work out which shades work together, from there you can build your suit and accessories that have subtle differences. If you aren’t sure how to match colours, or you really want something that stands out, there is no reason that you can’t ask a retail assistant for help.
