4 Tips For Saving Money on Fashion

People often associate fashion with expense. They think that you need to spend vast amounts of money if you want to look good and keep up to date with the latest looks and trends. But this is completely untrue.

There are so many ways to save money on your clothing without compromising on your style. To help you look your best at all times without breaking the bank, here are four tips for cutting fashion costs.

Buy good quality clothing

Sometimes you need to spend a little more to save money. It sounds counter-intuitive, but if you’re constantly buying cheap, poor-quality items, they will inevitably have to be replaced. Poorly-made shirts will shed their buttons and jeans will lose their color after a couple of washes. Before long, you’ll have to dig into your bank account to replace them. It’s ultimately cheaper to invest your money into a few good-quality garments that will stand the test of time.

Don’t worry about what people can’t see

When it comes to underwear, there is a huge range of options available from bargain-bucket boxer shorts to designer socks selling at $50 a pop or more. Considering very few people are going to see these garments, do you really need to spend all that money on something that’s only meant to keep your feet warm? There’s no need to spend more than a few dollars on your underclothes, and you can use those extra savings on a shirt or pair of shoes that are really going to turn some heads.

Buy second hand

A lot of people turn their noses up at the idea of buying an item of clothing second hand but there should be no shame in it. Plenty of people return or sell items after only a few uses, perhaps because it doesn’t fit right or it’s the wrong style, and it ends up back on sale. These clothes have hardly had any use but the price tag will be a great deal smaller. Designer labels instantly become affordable once they’re no longer brand new, and you won’t even notice the difference. And it’s not just clothing: you can buy pre-owned luxury watch brands and jewelry too.

Look after your clothes

The better care you take of your clothing, the less you’ll spend on maintaining your wardrobe. The way you store and treat your items will determine how long they last, and all it takes is a few good habits to significantly prolong their life span. For a start, don’t wash them after every single use. A jumper or pair of jeans can survive multiple wears before needing a wash. Each spin in the washing machine results in color drainage and elastic stretch, so by wearing each garment longer and keeping it clean you’ll extend its usability. When you do wash, make sure you follow the instructions on the label and use minimal detergent, as this can make your clothing dull and stiff. Store your items in a cool, dry environment to prevent mold, and fold heavy garments rather than hanging them to prevent stretching.
