3 Ways to Optimize Your Comfort at Home

Your home is only as comfortable as you make it. And even though there are several things you can switch up to add to its comfort, one thing you can’t control is the weather outside. With a well-maintained heating and cooling system, though, you can keep your home’s temperature at a comfortable level all year long. For now, let’s explore three ways to optimize your comfort at home.

Buy the Right Furniture

Thanks to modern furniture, you can take advantage of pieces that serve multiple purposes. For example, if you live in a small home but frequently have buddies over for a few late-night drinks and a couple rounds of poker, a convertible chair bed in the living room can add extra sleeping space without causing the space to look cluttered.

Or perhaps you need a desk area but don’t have room for a home office. With a multipurpose coffee table, you get a bookshelf, coffee table, and office desk all in one piece. Talk about convenience at its finest. Adding comfort to your home is exceptionally simple with multi-functional furniture.

Spruce Up Your Home’s Decor With Houseplants

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, one of the top environmental health threats is indoor air quality. To combat this issue, you should aim to keep the humidity in your home under 50 percent, which will protect your home from mildew growth as well as prevent an infestation of dust mites.

Thankfully, sprucing up your home with houseplants is an excellent way to add a nice touch of decor while also making it more comfortable. English ivy, the peace lily, and the Boston fern are all known for being effective moisture-absorbing forms of vegetation.

Have Your Heating and Cooling Unit Serviced

Like we said before, you can’t control the weather outside, but you most definitely can control the temperature inside your home. You’re going to have a difficult time maintaining a comfortable temperature, though, if your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) unit isn’t properly functioning.

Ideally, an HVAC unit should be serviced at least one time a year. From a professional standpoint, most HVAC experts will recommend at least two service sessions each year, once in the springtime and once during the fall. During the springtime, an HVAC technician will check your air conditioner to ensure it can cool your home. During the fall time, the HVAC technician will look at your heater to make sure it can keep your home warm and cozy throughout the cold months.

You’ll also want to keep an eye on your unit’s filters, which usually need to be replaced at least once every three months. If you have pets in the home, change the filters every 30 to 60 days depending on how bad your pets shed. A clean filter enables the HVAC unit to run more efficiently and better heat and cool the home.

Keeping your home comfortable is up to you. With multi-functional furniture pieces, houseplants, and a regularly serviced HVAC system, it becomes much easier to keep your house cozy all year long.
